MONZAMBANO – Due sculture del Cinquecento rubate nel 2001 nella chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo di Monzambano sono state sequestrate dai carabinieri del Nucleo per la tutela del patrimonio culturale di Perugia, nell’ambito di un’indagine coordinata dalla procura della Repubblica di Terni. Fanno parte di un più ampio bottino composto da vari oggetti di arte sacra sottratti nella notte fra il 30 maggio e il 1° giugno di vent’anni dalla chiesa del paese collinare.
“Si tratta di due angeli in legno dorato e policromo nella disponibilità di un antiquario orvietano indicato al momento come ‘possessore in buona fede” hanno spiegato gli investigatori.
Sono stati recuperati presso un deposito di spedizioni di Marghera in provincia di Venezia poco prima che fossero trasportate all’estero per essere vendute a una nota casa d’asta europea.
I carabinieri sono stati coinvolti grazie alla segnalazione dell’Ufficio esportazione della Soprintendenza Archeologia belle arti e paesaggio per le provincie di Verona, Rovigo e Vicenza, interpellato per valutare la richiesta di rilascio della licenza di esportazione avanzata da una ditta veneta specializzata nel trasporto e nella spedizione di opere d’arte. Come riporta l’Ansa “la chiara funzione devozionale dei manufatti, l’epoca di realizzazione e la pregevole lavorazione, hanno indotto un controllo più approfondito da parte dei militari. Le immediate verifiche svolte nella ‘Banca dati dei beni culturali illecitamente sottratti’, il più grande database di beni culturali rubati esistente al mondo gestito dal comando Tpc, e il confronto con la documentazione fornita dall’Ufficio scaligero del ministero della Cultura, hanno dato esito positivo”
L’esecuzione del provvedimento urgente di sequestro, avvenuta presso il deposito della laguna veneta, ha permesso di recuperare le sculture ancora imballate e pronte per essere portate all’estero.
